About the Job

The Director, Commercial Operations supports productivity and salesforce operational excellence across the Commercial organization. In addition, the role develops impact strategies and measurement for sales and marketing for the respective areas. The position is also responsible for quota setting and identifying barriers that prevent the team from reaching sales goals. This position is heavily involved in the periodic management of business flow including ensuring strategic insights and business dashboards are updated and accurate. The role supports the Commercial Leadership Team on assessment and program management of territory and sales performance, including a strong partnership with Sales leadership on sales strategy, forecasting and reporting against our goals, and identifying strategic insights to drive growth.

This person will be self-motivated, with strong Sales or Revenue operations background. The successful candidate will have diagnostics/biotech/pharmaceutical experience, particularly within a commercial focused organization, will be hands-on, detail oriented & have a passion for continuous improvement. This candidate will also have skills in analytical areas such as variance analysis and the ability to pull / build reports across multiple areas of the enterprise. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across the commercial group to support business reports with long range plans and related strategic initiatives.
  • Assess current operations to refine the overall business processes and strategy in partnership with Commercial Insights analytics group.
  • Assess partnership strategies to align with strategic initiatives.
  • Drive the business analysis, strategy recommendations and business cases in partnership with appropriate internal groups.
  • Be the trusted strategy partner to each functional lead for Sales, Product, Marketing, Analytics, Operations and Market Research as needed.
  • Build and implement governance, clear roles & responsibilities, decision making, and alignment on key strategic priorities/ initiatives.
  • Define, structure, drive and coordinate the commercial strategic projects across the FMI portfolio.
  • Drive synergistic alliances with the other parts of Company – Client services, and partners in Finance, Marketing, Strategic Insights, HR, Legal, Corporate Communications, and others.
  • Power existing management reporting by evaluating financial results, distilling and synthesizing issues, and articulating key updates to senior-level staff.
  • Analyze financial results, distill/synthesize key trends, assess current and future business risks, and communicate critical updates to senior leadership while preparing monthly strategic business insights.
  • Create sustainable business, operational, and financial processes widely understood by all necessary teams.
  • Execute improved management reporting by working with Operations and Finance and Payer group to more discreetly and accurately track financial results.
  • Work closely with Functional leads - provide management reporting, accounting and compliance guidance, and ensure alignment of operational initiatives.
  • Manage positive relationships with key business partners and Sales leaders.
  • Assist in the short and long-term financial modeling and forecasting process with deliberate focus on weekly/monthly trends, exceptional organization, and clear communication commercial leaders.
  • Collaborate with Finance on monthly financial close to ensure integrity and accuracy of revenue and Operational expenses budget management.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Marketing and Sales in support of company and business unit initiatives.
  • Consistently assess ways to examine profitability, efficiency and ROI for Commercial spend.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10+ years of experience working in high level commercial operations, internal strategy or business development role 
  • 5+ years Sales or Revenue operational role in the healthcare industry 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within a biotech/pharmaceutical organization, partnering with G&A functions and other corporate areas 
  • Financial and modeling experience 
  • Drive process improvements in the operational and customer value stream processes 
  • Deep experience developing market and business analyses, operational insights, growth strategies, execution plans and strategic initiatives around operational effectiveness 
  • Highly analytical, with experience building strategic and business insights for an executive audience 
  • Demonstrated success partnering across the organization, across a variety of functions, including Finance, HR, Operations, Data scientists, Marketing, Sales etc. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy by monitoring one’s own work to ensure quality results 
  • Ability to deliver on time while handling multiple, competing priorities 
  • Effective and confident in the engagement with senior leadership from a variety of functions up to Executive level 
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Understanding of HIPAA and its importance of privacy of patient data
