Assoc Dir, Alliance Management

About the Job

The Associate Director, Alliance Management leads FMI partnerships to ensure comprehensive delivery, strategic execution, and expansion of one or more biopharma partnerships. This is a high impact role for FMI, supporting development of precision medicines that benefit patients through advanced therapies.  The Assoc Director is responsible for implementing and monitoring the execution of plans for specific programs within FMI’s biopharma collaborations, including companion diagnostics, R&D collaborations, and data partnership activities. In this role, the incumbent leverages strong interpersonal skills to partner cross-functionally with internal and external teams, expand stakeholder relationships within assigned partner(s), and manage escalation of issues as needed. The Assoc Director is responsible to provide support to the Strategic Partnership Lead, Alliance Management, including ownership in governance and supporting partnership growth.  This role will include mentoring of team members and may include direct reports. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an ambassador of FMI to manage your partner’s strategic intent and focus on portfolio execution to assure the partnership realizes growth potential.
  • Coordinate efforts across internal and external organizations to ensure that partnership goals are achieved, and contractual expectations are attained.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for one or more partnered CDx programs and/or data partnerships, maintaining alignment between internal and partner teams, and managing communication, escalation of issues, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor progress against executed collaboration agreements; proactively identify and raise issues; develop and own resolution.
  • Lead and support organization to achieve high functioning Governance bodies and Joint Steering Committees.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence
  • Build plans for assigned projects within partnership and mitigate risk.
  • Execute partnership strategy in context to industry trends and FMI solutions.
  • Act as point of internal and joint escalation, when possible resolving issues without further escalation.
  • Demonstrated history of being proactive, taking initiative, and driving to results
  • Support Strategic Partnership Lead (SPL) in account plan development and growth.
  • Coach individual team members to identify and address development areas.
  • Writing and negotiating contracts is customer specific and may be required.
  • Commitment to reflect FMI’s values: passion, patients, innovation, and collaboration
  • Other projects as periodically assigned.


Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline

• 8+ years of experience in the life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry or at a diagnostic academic center

• 5+ years in a business development, project management, or alliance management function

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in a scientific discipline
  • 8+ years in a business development, project management or alliance management function
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the planning and execution of collaborative projects
  • Track record of having managed successful partnerships; with desire and ability to perform at both a strategic leadership level and hands-on capacity.
  • Experience leading and developing people
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and communicate across organizations with different cultures & priorities
  • Experience writing, reviewing and negotiating contracts
  • Strong knowledge and credibility in the oncology market
  • Demonstrated success in a highly independent position
  • Exceptional listening and verbal communication
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain a high level of productivity, innovation, and setting priorities in order to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
