About the Job

The Associate Director, Corporate Strategy & Portfolio Planning (CSPP), is a key role within the CSPP team, focusing on FMI’s Corporate ‘Portfolio Planning’. This position is accountable for the day to day oversight of FMI’s portfolio of established and pipeline projects and determining appropriate resource allocation, consistent with the organization’s short and long-term objectives. The position also contributes to the evaluation of growth opportunities in support of corporate strategy. The role is highly cross functional and partners with R&D, Finance, CPMO (Corporate Program Management Office) and others, while closely collaborating on relevant projects and FMI’s overall Corporate Strategy together with the broader CSPP team.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of a strategic view of FMI’s portfolio:

  • Day-to-day management of PGC (Portfolio Governance Committee) process and governance structure for continued success and efficient allocation of company resources.
  • Support of the development of a portfolio-wide perspective to senior leaders on topics related to FMI’s overall portfolio: assay development, data-offerings, customer applications etc.
  • Through ongoing portfolio review, assessment of FMI’s ability to deliver near and long-term results towards our corporate priorities.
  • Partnering with Roche Global for international projects to ensure a global portfolio perspective.

• Performing robust economic and strategic evaluation:

  • Developing novel ways of visualizing and communicating FMI’s portfolio (in-line and pipeline) to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing relevant valuations (e.g., economic, strategic, etc.) in partnership with the finance organization to support portfolio trade-off decisions and inform the organization about optimal resource allocation and pinch points.
  • Framing and assessing development options in close partnership with FMI’s lifecycle teams and R&D organization.
  • Identifying critical factors for decision making and delivering clear recommendations to the PGC.

• Other relevant duties as assigned:

  • Support in providing strategic thought leadership for the Executive Team on decisions with broad or long-term business ramifications.
  • Contributing to the assessment of external growth and partnership opportunities in the context of FMI’s strategic priorities, in close collaboration with corporate development and the broader Roche Group.
  • Supervising and providing applicable direction, guidance, development and evaluation for CSPP team members.
  • Traveling domestically up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree

• 6+ years of experience working in a commercial, strategic, analytic, or consulting role within the biopharmaceutical, life sciences, or related industry

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate-level Degree (Master’s or Doctoral Degree) in business or a life science

• Experience in a similar Portfolio Planning role with demonstrated ability to align an organization around a common set of quantitative and qualitative principles for successful portfolio prioritization

• International market experience

• Prior work experience:

  • Conducting or facilitating a variety of analyses pertinent to strategy development
  • Leading cross-functional teams within a matrixed and multi-functional work environment
  • Establishing effective cross-functional, cross-level internal and external stakeholder partnerships
  • Influencing an organization and individuals on strategy
  • Presenting to executive audiences
  • Within the healthcare and/or life science industries and/or within high-growth, dynamic, complex business environments

• History or portfolio of generating effective strategy resulting in optimal organizational outcomes

• Understanding of therapeutic or diagnostic development and commercialization

• Strong knowledge in oncology, including external trends and issues in the global oncology landscape

• Demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

  • Exceptional skills in both structured and unstructured problem-solving
  • Proactive in identifying priorities that require organizational focus
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguity, simplify in the midst of complexity, exhibit creative problem solving, adapt quickly to changing needs, and deliver results while balancing multiple priorities and manage through change
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor

• High level of resourcefulness in finding answers and solutions when information and data is not readily available and solving open-ended problems

• Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
