Associate Director, Data Analytics

Full Time | Cambridge | Massachusetts | United States


The Associate Director of Strategic Insights & Analytics, Data Analytics Lead is responsible for leading the development and execution of analysis to deliver timely and actionable insights that drive strategic planning and business operations activities across Foundation Medicine. He/she will have primary responsibility for commercial analytics, including analytics of field operations and product/portfolio performance. We are seeking a team-oriented individual who excels working in a fast-moving and dynamic environment and thrives on finding innovative solutions to complex business questions using data. This position is key in ensuring the vision and mission of FMI are realized and requires travel (up to 10-20%).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead SIA analytics activities including customer targeting and segmentation, field operations analytics, business reporting and tools, and incentive compensation.
  • Develop and execute advanced analytical and statistical methods to answer a variety of business questions using multiple data sources and tools.
  • Lead the delivery of reporting solutions related to performance management (dashboards and self-service); Lead the interaction with end users to gather business requirements / metrics and communicate value of the initiative / dashboard / self-service.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of strategic and promotional efforts, projects, and practices to identify opportunities to optimize the value of investments across the portfolio.
  • Support the continued development and refinement of CRM and other data analytics tools; act as strategic thought partner to the FMI organization on business analytics.
  • Proactively seek to understand business needs, priorities, and scope of work to continually refine and enhance our data analytics capabilities.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop 2-3 direct reports.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline (engineering, mathematics, statistics, physical sciences or a related field).
  • Minimum Experience: 10+ years hands on experience in the design and implementation of advanced analytics or quantitative science methods in the healthcare industry to support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree (MBA or graduate degree preferred).
  • Experience with primary and secondary data: internal performance data, syndicated sales, promotional & marketing data, longitudinal patient-level data, payer data. Additional knowledge of primary market research or medical research data is a plus.
  • Experience using various primary and secondary data sources to analyze product usage patterns.
  • Experience with field force analytics, including customer segmentation, targeting, and promotional response measurements.
  • Experience working with Marketing, Sales, and Operations teams.
  • Experience with advanced statistical techniques such as experimental design, CHAID, uncertainty analysis, data mining, segmentation methods, multivariate regression, construction of score-cards, or predictive modeling.
  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills; strong executive presence.
  • Prior people management experience preferred.

  • Able to work effectively in a fluid, cross-functional matrixed environment and stand out as a successful collaborator.

  • Objective when presenting insights and guiding decision-making; demonstrate good presentation skills by pairing sound analytics with storytelling.

  • Able to lean in and manage through change.
  • Ability to travel (~10-20%).
