ABOUT THE JOB

The Associate Director, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for assisting with the day to day oversight of all safety programs at all FMI locations, including enforcement of established safety policies, training on safety regulations best practices, and direct communication with third-party vendors to ensure appropriate service levels are maintained. The role sits on FMI’s Safety Committee and is a member of the Facilities team within Lab Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead EHS risk assessment, self-assessment, audit and inspection processes.
  • Manage EHS elements of occupational health programs, such as personal protective equipment and blood borne pathogens.
  • Responsible review, planning and implementation of safety policies and regulations across locations.
  • Review and analyze incident and accident data, root cause analysis, and make resolution recommendations.
  • Implement pertinent corrective and preventative actions and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist in monitoring the efforts of consultants, service providers, and contractors participating in site activities with safety, health and environmental impacts.
  • Design training program content and delivers effective EHS-related training.
  • Provide management and coaching for less experienced Facilities team members at each location.
  • Maintain all safety records and exposure monitoring and generate reports as required.
  • Participate in site emergency response, including preparedness and business continuity.
  • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory and insurance inspections and project reviews.
  • Work with the site to cultivate the development of a site safety culture.
  • Develop annual operating budgets for each facility.
  • Participate in on-call rotation that provides 24/7 coverage and emergency response to EHS related incidents.
  • Occasional travel (20-25% of working time) to other site locations.
  • Perform periodic additional health and safety pertinent duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a site EHS role working with regulatory agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a safety-related field.
  • Working knowledge of relevant local EHS regulations, international EHS management systems (e.g. ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) and how they apply to sites and functions within the region.
  • Demonstrated fluency in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Incident commander training or demonstrated ability to manage emergency response in crisis situations.
  • Fluent in Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Hazardous Waste Management.
  • DOT/IATA HAZMAT Transportation Training completion.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Certified Safety Professional and or Certified Industrial Hygienist, or equivalent certification (e.g., Grad IOSH).

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to prioritize and thoroughly follow up on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data.
