ABOUT THE JOB

The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer is an advanced, specialized computer science position that provides FMI’s users with advanced reporting capabilities. The position addresses issues as they arise to ensure end user satisfaction with the BI tool set and the overall health of BI’s technology platform. The position eliminates manual data crunching and works with data for external reporting including external sample tracking via our physician portal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement and expand databases utilizing the full MS SQL Server stack and other database technologies when appropriate.
  • Partner with the stakeholder groups to gather data, metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other reporting requirements.
  • Formulate reports and solutions to service reporting requirements that meet stakeholder needs.
  • Manage report delivery expectations and provide internal customer service.
  • Test performance of databases to insure they are efficient and scalable.
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems by identifying the root source of problem/incorrect data and implement measures to correct and prevent future occurrences of problems.
  • Tune query execution if necessary to achieve desired system performance.
  • Plan and execute data migration procedures to move, transform and load data between platforms without service disruption.
  • Continually re-iterate reports based on stakeholder feedback and requests for improvements in reporting features.
  • Assist in maintaining the BI report service enhancement or engineering improvement backlog for pertinent functional areas.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar computer-related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and administering Microsoft SQL server databases

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of RSBMS concepts, data normalization, SQL Server, and T-SQL
  • Extensive experience writing T-SQL stored procedures, and query tuning on high-transaction systems
  • Strong skills in Online Analytical Processing and reporting technologies
  • Experience developing robust Extract, Transform and Load processes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with cloud database technologies
  • Deep understanding of data quality, reporting, and data analysis techniques
  • Understanding of application programming interfaces and modern web architecture
  • Experience with software lifecycle processes, code reviews, and source control platforms (SSDT, Visual Studio, GIT, and VSTS/Azure DevOps)
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server services (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS)
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
