Chief of Staff-BioPharma

The Chief of Staff to the SVP/Head of Biopharma is a high-visibility strategic partner and thought leader that leads the coordination and strategic alignment of diverse Business Functions within (i.e. BD, Alliance Management, Strategy) and outside Biopharma, the implementation of significant organizational and strategic plans as well as the management of large scale, externally focused partnering meetings and events. This position leverages forward thinking innovative strategy in support of key enterprise priorities as directed by the SVP/Head of Biopharma. Partnering closely with the Biopharma Leadership Team (BLT) and key stakeholders across FMI and externally, the incumbent is responsible for streamlining high-importance projects and conducting leadership level internal and external initiatives that have very significant impact on the company’s business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the bridge for smooth communication between the SVP/Head of Biopharma and leaders across the organization, building relationships crucial to effective collaboration across the company.
  • Partner with the SVP/Head of Biopharma on initiatives that ensure a highly functioning organization.
  • Maintain ongoing, regular stakeholder engagements with the BLT to create and maintain a highly integrated organization.
  • Assessing all inquiries directed to the executive and determine priority and the proper course of action.
  • Act as a representative for the office of FMI Biopharma in external initiatives.
  • Lead and drive content development and engagements for large scale external partnering events and initiatives, with a strong Biopharma customer focus.
  • Execute upon initiatives and efforts identified by the BLT and the office of the SVP.
  • Lead and direct select cross functional projects that drive the core work of FMI/Biopharma.
  • Provide “sounding board” active listening and the application of knowledge and expertise to problem solve a broad range of areas that impact progress.
  • Provide decision support through data gathering, information analyzing, and presenting considerations to the SVP Head of Biopharma and other BLT and Expanded BLT members.
  • Operate at a tactical, strategic and operational level, handling the oversight of projects that do not neatly fit within the organizational chart or that fall between departments or leadership areas of responsibility.
  • Support preparation for Board Meetings and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Develop and assemble organizational annual goals, measure progress and provide updates to stakeholders.
  • Lead efforts on gauging and sharing insights on “pulse” of the organization and Voice of Customers’ initiatives.
  • Develop presentations and communications to the organization.
  • Monitor for and identify priorities that require senior leadership focus.
  • Track high priority initiatives for the SVP Head of Biopharma and the BLT and identify any obstacles; communicate initiative status, pulling in other BLT members or other FMI leaders as necessary.
  • Connect teams that are working on similar initiatives.
  • Work on efforts to develop FMI’s culture and make FMI a great place to work.
  • Domestic and international travel to FMI worksites and external meeting locations (up to 20%).
  • Additional responsibilities as periodically assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of professional management experience in the life science industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or above.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Chief of Staff capacity.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Oncology.
  • Expert leadership, mentorship, and motivational skills.
  • Strong and demonstrated focus on external customers (biopharmaceuticals and healthcare organizations) and ability to sense and understand the external Biopharma and healthcare environment, combined with a natural ability to network and influence external stakeholders, if required.
  • Strong knowledge of the business, finance and analytics.
  • Demonstrated drive for results through a history of achievements and strategy.
  • History of driving complex projects in the face of ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated career progression with increasing responsibility over time.
  • Strong orientation to team culture and cross-functionality.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
