About The Job

The Chief of Staff, Corporate Management & Strategy (CM&S) is a strategic partner and thought leader for the Corporate Management & Strategy function that leads the coordination and implementation of department initiatives and drives business process improvement efforts. This position is responsible for improving current processes and coordinating organizational procedures to optimize communication, workflows, resource management, efficiency and productivity. Additionally, this role is critical to improving the impact of CM&S and its Leadership Team at FMI.  As a member of CM&S Leadership Team the incumbent collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer and leaders across FMI in supporting corporate processes, program management, and initiative implementation with stakeholders across FMI.

 

Corporate Management & Strategy is led by the Chief Financial Officer and is a diverse organization which includes Finance & Accounting, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Communications, Procurement, Project & Portfolio Management, Corporate Development and Billing & Revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Add structure and process for better communication within CM&S as well as across other stakeholder teams. Ensure activities are running efficiently within and across teams.
  • Design and execute upon initiatives for cohesion, improved alignment and engagement among teams and departments through synthesis of information and data across the organization.
  • Set the agendas of CM&S Leadership Team (LT) meetings, of related team meetings, and ensure successful preparation and organization of these meetings.
  • Coordinate CM&S Town Hall and other department-wide meetings & events.
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer (CSO) in preparing annual budget planning for the CM&S organization.
  • Support CFO in providing quarterly business reports and regular communication to all employees.
  • Function as the point person for the CFO as it relates to managing the annual operating cycle and measuring progress against strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison between all CM&S Team functional leaders to develop unified road maps and joint initiatives for overall step changes in productivity and reliability. Partner with Roche and other FMI functions to prioritize these initiatives and goals.
  • Build and develop relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness, and help to define new operational strategies, working with CFO and executives on special projects pertinent to operations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications.
  • In partnership with CFO, develop dashboards and key performance indicators providing guidance to the CM&S Team on strategy and delivery.
  • Drive business priorities from start to finish.
  • Execute special projects or initiatives on behalf of the CFO.
  • Be a driving force for the CM&S LT’s transformation to more agile ways of working.
  • Support more cross-department activities across the breadth of the CM&S function.
  • Requires a moderate amount of domestic and international travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the life sciences industry.
  • Prior management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Chief of Staff role or equivalent leadership capacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, such as a Master of Business Administration degree.
  • Management experience with a focus on process improvement and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Experience with working in highly cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing operational improvements in general, as well as with related software development.
  • Experience leading and managing strategic initiatives.
  • Experience developing organization culture and collaboration with key partners.
  • Excellent decision-making, communication and collaboration skills with proven cross-functional and multi-level relationship building skills.
  • Expert experience in leading, mentoring, and motivating teams.
  • Experience managing operating budgets with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, including developing and delivering presentations to senior management and large groups.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a bias for action and ability to deal with extreme ambiguity and rapidly changing environments.
  • Deep understanding of business strategy and metrics.
  • Superior communication skills with a demonstrated ability to navigate a complex organization and generate buy-in for ideas and plans.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy.
