About the Job

The Director, Corporate Strategy & Portfolio Planning (CSPP), is a key role within the CSPP team focusing on Corporate ‘Portfolio Planning’ and is accountable for overseeing FMI’s portfolio of established and pipeline projects and determining appropriate resource allocation consistent with the organization’s short and long-term objectives. The position is responsible for setting up and advancing the necessary governance (PGC – Portfolio Governance Committee) and processes to support project valuation and decision-making for FMI’s senior leadership. The role is highly cross functional and will be required to partner with R&D, Finance, CPMO (Corporate Program Management Office) and others while closely collaborating on relevant projects and FMI’s overall Corporate Strategy together with the broader CSPP team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  Developing and maintaining a strategic view of FMI’s portfolio:

• Developing, advancing, and managing PGC (Portfolio Governance Committee) process and governance structure for continued success and efficient allocation of company resources

• Providing portfolio-wide perspective to senior leaders on topics related to FMI’s overall portfolio; assay development, data-offerings, customer applications etc. and assessing FMI’s ability to deliver near and long-term results towards our corporate priorities

• Partner with the Roche Global for international projects to ensure a global portfolio perspective  

 

Performing robust economic and strategic evaluation:

• Developing novel ways of visualizing and communicating FMI’s portfolio (in-line and pipeline) to internal and external stakeholders

• Performing relevant valuations (e.g., economic, strategic, etc.) in partnership with the finance organization to support portfolio trade-off decisions and inform the organization about optimal resource allocation and pinch points

• Framing and assessing development options in close partnership with FMI’s lifecycle teams and R&D organization

• Identifying critical factors for decision making and delivering clear recommendations to PGC

 

Supporting external & internal innovation

• Creating necessary structure and supporting guidance for intake of new ideas/projects and establish consistent path to prioritization/resourcing and clearly articulate trade-offs

• Partnering closely with FMI’s early R&D organization to develop a pipeline of development opportunities for FMI and support in the development of robust ‘build, buy, partner’ assessments

• Partner with the analytics team to incorporate external landscaping and context to aid in informing decisions

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 8+ years of progressively responsible work experience in a planning, strategic, analytic, or consulting role within the biopharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate-level Degree (Master’s or Doctoral Degree) in business or a life science

• Understanding of therapeutic or diagnostic development and commercialization

• Strong knowledge in oncology, including external trends and issues in the global oncology landscape

• Experience in a similar Portfolio Planning role with demonstrated ability to align an organization around a common set of quantitative and qualitative principles for successful portfolio prioritization  

• History or portfolio of generating effective strategy resulting in optimal organizational outcomes

• Prior work experience:

·   Conducting or facilitating a variety of analyses pertinent to strategy development

·   Leading cross-functional teams within a matrixed and multi-functional work environment

·   Establishing effective cross-functional, cross-level, internal and external stakeholder partnerships

·   Influencing an organization and individuals on strategy

·   Presenting to executive audiences

·   Within the healthcare and/or life science industries and/or within high-growth, dynamic, complex business environments

• Demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

·   Proactive in identifying priorities that required organizational focus

·   Ability to work effectively in ambiguity, simplify in the midst of complexity, exhibit creative problem solving, adapts quickly to changing needs, and deliver results while balancing multiple priorities and manage through change

·   Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor

·   High level of resourcefulness in finding answers and solutions when information and data is not readily available and solving open-ended problems

• Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
