Director, Medical Strategy

About the Job

The Director, Medical Strategy plays a key role in the execution of an integrated medical affairs strategy. The incumbent provides medical strategic and operational input into medical affairs activities, inclusive of educational initiatives, provider interactions, and generation and dissemination of scientific data. The position partners with FMI cross-functional leaders, as well as FMI partners at Roche and Flatiron, to develop a dynamic publications plan, elevating FMI’s mission to transform cancer care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for the development and implementation of disease area strategic plans and execution through a range of medical tactics.
  • Support cross-functional Medical pre-launch processes to ensure launch readiness and medical excellence.
  • Participate in or leadership of advisory board meetings with health care providers.
  • Develop the Medical Affairs Congress Plan at both the National and Regional level.
  • Lead the planning and execution of educational activities at key scientific congresses.
  • Review the development of medical content for strategic communication planning.
  • Maintain effective relationships and communications with external thought leaders.
  • Analyze and interpret scientific data, disease/treatment landscape, and external stakeholder evidence requirements to identify challenges and opportunities.
  • May lead cross functional sub-teams responsible for discrete projects within the therapeutic area.
  • Support the development of strategic medical content for the biopharma team.
  • Participate as needed on the study review committee to evaluate independent investigator submissions.
  • Participate as needed on the Medical Education Committee.
  • Communicate to health care providers the value and science of FMI’s solutions while ensuring scientific integrity.
  • Represent Medical as a medical reviewer for promotional review committee.
  • Collaborate within Medical functions and across departments to drive the medical strategy and deliverables.
  • Provide leadership and training support to the Medical Affairs team and Commercial Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD/DO, NP, PA or equivalent degree) with oncology experience; or
  • Advanced scientific or healthcare related degree (MD/DO, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) with 7-10 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Diagnostics, Pharma, or Biotech industry
  • Experience as a clinician
  • Background in oncology with strong launch experience, medical strategy, and scientific acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to distill and present complex scientific and medical information to a range of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain scientific credibility, and to communicate scientific results
  • Ability to work across multi-disciplinary groups and to lead decision-making discussions
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize complex information, and problem solve while maintaining a strong work ethic
  • Strong leadership, organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and collaborative skills with individuals, groups, and senior management
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
