Intern, Agile Practice & Operations Engineer

About the Job

The Agile Practice & Operations Engineer (APO) Intern assists with the software delivery metrics program. The program centers around how we measure and improve productivity across the Engineering department. This role collaborates with teams, management, and stakeholders to define key metrics, operationalize data collection and generate insights. The scope of the metrics spans the team, program, and portfolio levels. The visibility and information generated by the metrics program directly contribute to the department’s ability to increase engineering throughput.

The FMI Internship Program is offered to students currently registered in a degree program. It is a 10-12 week summer commitment, Full Time, 40 hours/week. Interns will gain a greater understanding of FMI through challenging project based work, Lunch & Learns with company executives, and the chance to connect with all employees by attending many other company-wide events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of metrics and associated reports that provide teams and stakeholders with valuable insights.
  • Assist with identifying and defining actionable metrics that provide consumers with valuable insights.
  • Assist with operationalizing the collection of data and generation of reports with minimum process overhead and maximum automation.
  • Assist in putting together the presentations on metrics in a clean and readable format and make the information easily accessible for target consumers.
  • Help consumers understand what the metrics are indicating and identify opportunities to enact change.
  • Assist with educating consumers on the intent of the metrics we collect (e.g. progress, bottlenecks).
  • Consult with peers and stakeholders to identify opportunities for changes based on data driven insights.
  • Continuously inspect and improve the metrics program and adapt it to suit the needs of the department and the business.
  • Monitor and analyze data across the Engineering department to identify trends and variances.
  • Review and test deliverables to ensure data is accurate and complete.
  • Leverage existing tools and evaluate other tools that may improve our ability to deliver information to our consumers.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Rising senior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in project management, software engineering, management information systems or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of software development life cycle and Agile Methods
  • Ability to craft succinct and logical presentations and confidently present to senior level executive audiences
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated eye for detail, polish, and presentation in deliverables
  • Comfortable learning and understanding a large enterprise architecture
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
