About the Job

The Payer Team Intern (Graduate) supports the operations and projects of the Payer Relations and Reimbursement Team. This position analyzes Medicaid market segments, medical policies, and legislation affecting Medicaid reimbursement and coverage of comprehensive genomic testing. By utilizing the output of this analysis, the Intern will be able to assist with the development of tools and analytics that can identify trends and opportunities to capture revenue in accordance with the company's and payer's goals.

The FMI Internship Program is offered to students currently registered in a degree program. It is a 10-12 week summer commitment, Full Time, 40 hours/week. Interns will gain a greater understanding of FMI through challenging project-based work, Spotlight Speaker Series with company executives, and the chance to connect with all employees by attending many company-wide events.

This role can be fully remote. If The Intern, Payer Team (Graduate) lives within commuting distance of Cambridge, MA, they may choose to avail of onsite office space in accordance with Foundation Medicine policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to increase Medicaid coverage for Medicaid-insured populations by conducting a landscape analysis of comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) coverage across state Medicaid programs.
  • Provide other Medicaid payer data analytics as needed to progress payer team goals.
  • Perform data integration activities for Medicaid plans on CRM.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Enrolled in a Master’s Degree in Public Health, Data Analytics, or related area of study in healthcare or science ( i.e.. PharmD, genetic counseling program)
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leveraging data to provide business insights
  • Experience working in the health care sector
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
  • Understanding of the US healthcare payer structure, especially Medicaid
  • Knowledge of Health Disparities and Public Health
  • Proven project-based collaboration skills
