Principal Network Automation Engineer

About the Job

The Principal Network Automation Engineer is responsible for designing and deploying network automations to Foundation Medicine’s network infrastructure and maintaining its operational reliability and availability. The incumbent is a highly motivated individual who thrives working within a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere. The Network Automation Engineer is responsible for mentoring and overseeing the work of other team members of the Networking & Collaboration team.

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Responsible for daily operations of LAN, WAN, Cloud Networks, and traffic engineering for Foundation Medicine (FMI) Offices and Colocation datacenters.
  • Design and deploy highly available networks for FMI business systems.
  • Support teams by bringing latest AWS network features to FMI’s cloud.
  • Create and update automation templates (Terraform) for AWS network and on-premise infrastructure creation.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot wireless networks.
  • Identify, diagnose, monitor, and resolve network issues. Create runbooks to automate troubleshooting in future.
  • Assist other technical groups to help deliver business critical projects.
  • Participate in 24x7x365 on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in computer science, computer networking, MIS, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, and OSPF)
  • Strong expertise with automation tools (Ansible, Python, APIs, Single source of Truth)
  • In-depth knowledge of Network Design for on-premise and cloud environments
  • Expertise in network security practices and technologies (ACLs, firewalls, and 802.1x, NPS)
  • Expertise in all AWS networking components (Transit Gateways, Route53, Direct Connects, VPC, Cloud WAN)
  • Experience working with Cisco Catalyst chassis series switches (4500, 9400)
  • Experience with high-performance telecommunications networks (EoMPLS and Point-to-Point)
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools
  • CCNP Routing and Switching, CCNP Voice, and/or CCNP Datacenter a plus
  • Proficiency in QoS implementation
  • Proficiency in using RegEx
  • Knowledge of load balancing technologies
  • Experience with enterprise class NAS & SAN storage solutions a plus (EMC, NetApp, IBM, Dell, and HP)
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (SOX, HIPAA, CLIA, FDA, and CAPA)
  • Demonstrated understanding of a clinical lab environment
  • Knowledge of Cisco VoIP technologies (Cisco IP Phones, CUCM, CER, CUC, UCCX, and CPS)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
