ABOUT THE JOB

The Principal Software Engineer, Process Engineering develops custom applications that are tightly integrated with FMI’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The role defines and implements a streamlined suite of applications to improve efficiency across laboratory workstreams and improve visibility to lifecycle of a sample, results, and data quality. The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for participating in development team activities, maintenance and support tasks, and for leveraging Agile principles and the goal of continuous delivery. As a senior position, the Principal Software Engineer provides technical leadership and  mentoring to junior team members; collaborates and participates in technical design efforts; and is instrumental in ensuring accurate, innovative and low-defect software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain custom applications that integrate with LIMS and other business applications (CRM, Medical Reporting, Billing).
  • Provide contributions to the design and implementation of future state laboratory systems data architecture and roadmap.
  • Define and document architecture and functional and design requirements.
  • Interact with internal customers to develop business requirements.
  • Work with team to develop IQ and OQ documentation and execute testing.
  • Conform to coding conventions and all aspects of the SDLC and change control and product release policies.
  • Participate in the continuous process improvement of Lab IT solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Technology and the Product Development group.
  • Develop, plan and recommend budget and staffing changes as required.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced software engineering and development team members by answering questions and establishing best coding and engineering practices.
  • Work closely with product owners, key business and technical stakeholders to ensure FMI is building the best products.
  • Maintain an Agile and scrum environment to deliver new innovative products.
  • Participate in and conduct peer design, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 8+ years of technical experience in software engineering.
  • Proficiency in Java or Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a technology field, preferably in Software Engineering.
  • 10+ years of technical experience with:
    • object-oriented programming.
    • C#, ASP.NET, .Net Core (2.1 and above).
    • Oracle and/or SQL Server.
  • 8+ years of experience with JavaScript, React (highly preferred), Angular 6 (or above), jQuery, jQueryUI , TypeScript, and WebPack.
  • 7+ years of experience with REST based development, including WebAPI.
  • Technology certifications such as MCSD “Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer” and AWS “Amazon Web Services”.
  • Experience in Agile development and familiarity with associated tools (i.e. Team Foundation Server, Rally, JIRA, etc.).
  • Expertise in implementing tools for data visualization across data sources, including Kibana, Grafana, ERWin, or LucidCharts.
  • Experience capturing requirements from end users and developing formal technical specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent initiatives, maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced team environment.
  • Exposure to cloud development (Amazon Web Services, Azure, etc.) and familiarity with microservices, lambda, Docker, and containerization.
  • Understanding of continuous integration and continuous deployment logistics.
  • Familiarity with single page applications and responsive web design.
  • Familiarity with CSS and JavaScript Bundling (i.e. Grunt/Gulp/WebEssentials).
  • Ability to comply with regulated development environments, such as via FDA/USDA/DHS.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of privacy of patient data.
