Product Manager

About the Job

The Insights Generation (IG) group sits at a critical juncture between our labs and our end users. IG is responsible for generating the reports and data that are ultimately delivered to our partners and physicians. The Product Manager, Structured Data is responsible for the clinical and pharma data we send to customers—treating the data as a standalone product. This Product Manager is accountable for the day-to-day activities for high functioning software development teams delivering features to make our reporting as fast, accurate, informative, and useful as possible. The Product Manager has end-to-end ownership of initiatives throughout the project lifecycle from ideation and requirements gathering to post-launch improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy
    • Design and/or maintain, in close collaboration with our stakeholders and other members of the team, a three-year strategy and roadmap for the operational structured data products FMI will offer.
    • Periodically re-visit and otherwise continuously improve the structured data product strategy based on research and evaluation.
    • Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure the health of the structured data portfolio.
    • Identify technical and resource allocation gaps based on overall data product goals and implement a plan to meet those needs.
  • Product Execution
    • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to build a suite of platform applications, guiding product execution steps below:
      • Build prototypes;
      • Test prototypes;
      • Develop use cases;
      • De-risk potential solutions;
      • Create, challenge, and test key hypotheses and assumptions;
      • Design, build, and manage data models and data contracts;
      • Gain feedback and refine approach;
      • Scale and grow existing solutions;
      • Implement and manage multi-team support and operations; and,
      • Iterate processes within the software development life cycle.
    • Identify and determine when priority of product is to shift from prototyping and piloting to scaling and growing impact of a solution.
    • Answer technical questions from developers, scrum masters, QE, design, and others on the teams to remove blockers and ensure features meet specification.
    • Continuously build, refine, and prioritize the teams’ backlogs.
    • Participate in the teams as a leader, motivator, and individual contributor.
  • Product Research
    • Conduct research in collaboration with the Client Services, Research & Development and Biopharma partners into the oncology market and its unmet customer needs.
    • Leverage information gained from research efforts to recommend new product offerings and/or enhancements to current solutions.
  • Other
    • Meet regularly with all other product management peers and technology leads to gather requirements and identify robust, scalable secure data delivery solutions amongst our ecosystem of applications.
    • Act as key point of contact for product strategy, updates, product delivery, and advanced troubleshooting.
    • Authorize modifications and maintenance of the designated technology product.
    • Manage the development backlog.
    • Partner with various business stakeholder groups on product initiatives.
    • Partner with Quality Assurance and other departments to ensure system and procedures of the product adhere to established standards.
    • Advocate the product vision to peers, customers, researchers, and stakeholders.
    • Manage and create development opportunities to less experienced team members.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biological Science, or a related/ technical field
  • 5+ years of experience working in software product management
  • 1+ years of experience directly leading one or multiple scrum teams
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree, such as a Master’s or Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering or a related field with a heavy quantitative and scientific base
  • Experience working with healthcare applications and data, specifically in the context of data access/transfer, compliance, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare data standards
  • Previous experience with genomics or oncology data and clinical workflows
  • Experience with platform-level business thinking
  • Extensive modern technology stack experience and history of facilitating discussion with engineering teams resulting in best product decisions for data products
  • Experience translating the vision of a product to achieve measurable results
  • History of collaborative work on team and experience sharing the vision of a product with a team and stakeholders
  • High degree of technical competency
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
