Program Manager, Computational Biology

About the Job

The Program Manager, Computational Biology is part of an interdisciplinary team of Computational Biologists, Bioinformatics Analysts, Software Engineers, Biologists. Program Managers and Technical Writers. This position is responsible for the prioritization, planning, and execution of product development activities within the Computational Biology organization. The Program Manager develops and executes strategic and tactical program and project plans to deliver on the defined business solution, identifies and resolves project resource requirements and risks, as well as develops and manages the project timeline and deliverables. The scope of the position spans from product concept to global commercialization and business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build out as well as grow, structure, and drive prioritization for the Computational Biology programs and projects through product and program life cycle management.
  • Strategically influence cross-functional collaboration, systems effectiveness, and thought leadership across the wider FMI organization as well as external partners and collaborators.
  • Tactically facilitate and curate product requirement discussions in a cross functional environment both within Computational Biology as well as the wider FMI organization.
  • Develop and execute (written and oral) communication strategy on decisions, timelines, and any identified risks in a timely manner to senior leadership across functions within FMI (and as necessary to external partners and collaborators).
  • Develop and facilitate creative feedback loops over time, on programs and projects, for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with the various Computational Biology, Technology, and Operations teams to identify areas of risk and facilitate creation of mitigation and response proactively.
  • Develop agendas, notes, action items, and other program management support.
  • Build team ownership and commitment to program plans.
  • Provide strategic thinking to program or project team on New Product Introduction and delegate as appropriate.
  • Direct and mentor others on key program/project management processes.
  • Be responsible for various aspects of financial management, including budget, forecast, and strategic plan input and preparation.
  • Act as liaison between the program/project teams and FMI governance (Portfolio Governance Committee), product lifecycle teams, functional management and the Executive Team, as required.
  • Define and track key project metrics.
  • Elevate critical business decisions to the appropriate stakeholders and/or functional managers.
  • Travel domestically up to 10% of the time.
  • Other duties relating to program management as periodically assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a project management/program management role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree or advanced project management certification (PgMP, PMP)
  • 8+ years of experience in a program management role
  • Portfolio of leading international and/or distributed large scale product development projects utilizing project management and product design & development frameworks
  • History of applying Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Prior experience:
    • with intercultural teams using project management tools involving FDA regulated products
    • coordinating program details across disciplines and integrating all aspects of business as they impact development projects
    • working within deadline and resource constraints managing program scope, roles and responsibilities, specifications, timelines, and resources in a highly independent position with projects that include a software component
  • Product Development Process (PDP) system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables; program/project management lifecycle knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables
  • Knowledge of FDA / ISO quality system use for the creation and continued compliance of products
  • Proficiency in program/project management skills and principles, including scope, schedule, resource and risk management
  • Effective and clear communication and presentation skills, and experience presenting and communicating with all levels of an organization as well as with external customers
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Willingness to adapt and work in ambiguous and/or changing conditions
  • Working knowledge of FDA, ISO, CLIA and CAP regulations
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
