Senior Data Engineer

About the Job

The Data Engineer is responsible for leading the data architecture future state, creates new data pipelines, and helps the Data Analytics team deliver on its analytics roadmap. This role helps establish the cloud analytics platform and focuses on data quality by integrating data from across the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize strong SQL and Python expertise to engineer scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data from a variety of sources including raw files, source systems, databases, external APIs, and cloud services.
  • Optimize ingestion, cleansing, initial data modeling and data lake storage.
  • Ensure proper data protection and governance.
  • Build scalable databases; work closely with development teams across multiple departments to create well optimized, highly available and secure database solutions.
  • Leverage deep expertise of the Azure or AWS cloud analytics platforms to lead architectural discussions on a vision to help develop full analytics stack and drive business transformation to ensure we are using the latest emerging technologies to address current and future business opportunities.
  • Monitor and continuously improve data pipelines to flag and collaboratively address data reliability, efficiency, and quality in the upstream systems building trust in our data environment.
  • Translate high-level business objectives into the data modeling solutions needed to support Commercial reporting, analysis, and machine learning functions.
  • Work closely with data analysts and scientists to strive for greater functionality in our data ecosystem and quickly resolve operational issues by working with upstream support groups and other engineering teams.
  • Continuously research and propose new data engineering technologies while seeking out, designing, and implementing internal process improvements, such as automation of manual processes, optimization of data delivery, and improvement of data infrastructure.
  • Help the team grow and mature with data governance, international support and deployments, integration with internal applications, and creating data sharing opportunities and processes with cross functional teams and partners.
  • Deliver solutions in an Agile methodology.
  • Create and deliver presentations and documentation to the Technology Team and other stakeholders. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Operations, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field  
  • 3+ years extensive experience with Azure Synapse
  • 3+ years experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Scala, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience with:
    • ELT tools, such as Azure Data Factory
    • Data warehousing
    • big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, & etc.
    • PowerBI or other Visualization tools
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical or diagnostics industry
  • Extensive working experience with stream-processing systems
  • Experience with:
    • Agile methodology
    • exploring and automating data pipelines using programming languages
    • reconciling data and creating data automation processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform: Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate deep technical processes to business partners
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
