Senior Director, Medical Strategy

About the Job

The Senior Director of Medical Strategy is responsible for developing the Medical Team's functional strategy in addition to leading Disease Area Strategies (DAS). This leader will also coordinate and oversee execution of Integrated Development and Commercialization Plans (IDCP) for FMI’s portfolio ensuring that our evidence generation plans encompass analytical validity, clinical validity, clinical utility and HEOR studies. These strategies will be developed collaboratively with multiple key stakeholders across Medical, R&D, Commercial, Biopharma and GPS and ladder up to existing strategies and OKRs.

The Senior Director also manages the team responsible for Publication Planning, including maintenance of an enterprise presentation/publication roadmap, managing the Disclosure Committee, sharing acceptances for key congresses and providing medical writing, as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inspiring and strategic leadership to the Medical Strategy team to ensure this high-performing team has role clarity, strategic clarity and a collaborative working model to incorporate and synthesize internal and external insights.
  • Lead development of cross-functional Disease Area Strategies for FMI’s prioritized disease areas to identify current and future areas of unmet need and identify prioritized cross-functional opportunities.
  • Oversee and guide the IDCP process to inform LCT strategies and decisions; oversee the Evidence Gaps Working Group to evaluate and track progress against evidence gaps.
  • Develop FMI’s three-year scientific narrative in collaboration with R&D and Corporate Communications.
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure high priority evidence gaps are addressed, to strategically generate evidence for medical value communications, leading to improved coverage and testing adoption.
  • Play a leadership role on behalf of the Medical team in the FMI’s annual Strategic Planning and Portfolio Review process.
  • Serve as a member of the MSO Leadership Team to lead and participate in strategy development, decision making, creating a great place to work in MSO and contributing to the culture of the Medical team.
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing, staffing, and plans to deliver on team priorities.
  • Inspire and provide vision to leadership teams, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Mentor, direct, and evaluate the performance of direct reports.
  • Execute efforts to ensure strong customer and external relationships to inform portfolio recommendations and to allow the business to thrive.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., MD, JD, PharmD, PhD, MBA, MPH)
  • 10+ years of multidisciplinary work experience in the diagnostic, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industries, of which 3+ years include leading and managing teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-year experience working in oncology
  • Experience with launch planning and management, leading global project teams, and lifecycle planning and management
  • History of creating robust and integrated business strategies within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or diagnostic industries
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams in a dynamic and matrixed work environment
  • Proven track record in inspiring, coaching and developing direct reports
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate internally as a well-respected partner
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive when presented with complex challenges, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams and direct-reports
  • Proven track record in consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets, as well as qualitative goals for large departments and teams in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or related life science industries
  • Demonstration of an enterprise perspective beyond the specific product
  • Proven track record of building innovative solutions to address persistent challenges in oncology
  • Deep knowledge of oncology and personalized medicine
  • In-depth knowledge of the global diagnostic/genomic testing business and the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, especially with regard to R&D, product development, regulatory issues, commercialization, reimbursement initiatives, industry trends
  • Understanding of challenges facing healthcare providers today and tailored approaches to engagement
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and a dynamic environment, pivoting as needed and simplifying in the midst of complexity
  • Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to properly interact with people in different levels/positions/experience and cultures, both internally and externally
  • Exceptional collaboration skills in a highly matrixed and global environment
  • Strong change management skills and a proven track record of effectively driving organizational change and innovation
  • Exceptional strategic orientation and agility
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
