Senior Experience Designer

About the Job

The Senior Experience Designer acts as a strong voice for the user and can prioritize business goals to arrive at high-value design solutions. In many cases, the individual in this role is called on to explain concepts to scientists, physicians, and engineers, some of whom are new to the concept of user centered design. The incumbent works to track down user feedback, whether it’s by analyzing data to identify patterns or by facilitating conversations with users. As a more senior member of the team, the Senior Experience Designer provides thoughtful critique and guidance to others and stays busy by leading initiatives outside of one’s team, helping other designers shine through collaboration. This individual acts as a holistic systems thinker, considering how to integrate digital and physical experiences across channels to bring valuable and cohesive experiences to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize design strategy approaches, tools, and techniques to reimagine the clinical reporting experience and iterate based on the feedback received from close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Utilize principles and knowledge of graphic and print design to update and maintain our templates and support and define best practices, experience architectures, design strategies, frameworks, and systems that ensure high quality experiences and solutions.
  • Work closely with product and engineering counterparts on product strategy to translate insights into a roadmap and participate in agile release planning for selected products and services.
  • Create prototypes of possible design solutions to validate with users, working closely with an agile product team to build the software.
  • Work with stakeholders across the company to create a forward-looking document that is actionable for oncologists and their patients.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to strategize how the application will continue to support company growth.
  • Support and contribute to the FMI Design Pattern & Asset Library and Design System for both internally and externally facing product/service experiences.
  • Collaborate with the technology team to grow the front-end development practice, elevate experience quality and consistency, enable reuse and seamless integration, and accelerate innovation.
  • Actively collaborate with other Experience Design colleagues to foster sharing, cross-pollination of ideas, and delivery of seamless and integrated products, services, and experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with other designers while also owning your own work stream.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand needs and work to reframe conversations around problems and customer needs.
  • Design key workflows and interactions around a user's needs and think through edge cases and error handling.
  • Work with junior staff to guide them through work to get at better solutions.
  • Make contributions that help to level up the UX team as a whole.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience in product and service design
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one of the following: Figma, Sketch, Abstract, OR InVision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree (Masters+) in Design or a related field
  • Available Portfolio to demonstrate qualifications
  • 2+ years of direct experience in the life science, biomedical, biopharma, and/or healthcare industries designing data-driven applications, systems, and services
  • Experience working with and contributing to a design system
  • Experience supporting or leading both discovery and usability research sessions and synthesizing them into actionable direction
  • Demonstrated experience presenting work in a thoughtful manner to engage stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops with small groups of participants around design thinking activities
  • Demonstrated ability to frequently be self-reflective of one’s process and look to validate new tools and methods
  • Demonstrated systems thinking and approach in relation to experience architecture
  • Strong understanding of how one’s designs are built and ability to give clear requirements to engineers
  • Keen eye for visual and graphic design and a confident handling of gestalt principles as they apply to interface design
  • Understanding of the fundamental principles of product strategy as applicable to a software system in an Agile environment
  • Familiarity with or previous support of accessibility best practices and compliance
  • Comfort delivering work within the structure of an agile framework to solve design challenges as well as delivering to meet design needs outside the product team workflow
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
