Senior Software Engineer

About the Job

The Senior Software Engineer, Integrations writes software that makes cancer data accessible to clinicians, researchers, and patients. Specifically, the role designs, develops, and supports data integrations between FMI’s internal systems and external partners. This position works with customers using various internet communications protocols, data transport systems, and data formats within a structured SDLC framework, acting both as a member of a large team and as the sole developer for a project. The role also provides support to less experienced software engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead connection and advancement efforts for integration capabilities with EHR and other customer systems.
  • Own the architecture of the external integration products.
  • Capture requirements and business needs from end users, then develop formal technical specifications and solutions that address identified areas.
  • Design, develop, test, document and deploy EMR integration solutions.
  • Building seamless integrations with third-parties to link their data to our existing and future products based on standardized formats such as HL7 and FHIR.
  • Ensure scalability within the software build process.
  • Collaborate with multiple EHR Partners, Clinical Integration customers, internal teams, and third parties as assigned to problem solve in a real-time basis.
  • Write and maintain formal technical procedures and documentation for the application interfaces developed.
  • Maintain an agile and scrum environment to deliver new innovative products.
  • Manage version control, change and continuous improvement protocols.
  • Implement quality assurance testing standards and processes.
  • Participate in and periodically conduct regular peer design, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Mentor and develop junior software engineering and development team members by answering questions and maintaining established best coding and engineering practices.
  • Ensure the maintainability and quality of the product code base by helping establish clear technical roadmaps geared toward reducing future technical debt.
  • Provide individual hands-on developer contributions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of professional software engineering experience OR 10+ years of professional software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in software engineering, computer science, computer systems engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience with integration products linking workflows between multiple partners and customers using APIs and messaging platforms
  • 5+ years in building production quality backend software using at least one JavaScript Framework (Express, Fastify, etc.)
  • Expertise with Amazon Web Services, Cloud-based architecture and development
  • Experience with Node.js, JavaScript
  • Proficiency in Python, C# or Java
  • Excellent knowledge of at least 3 of the following:
    • Service-oriented architecture, microservices, and enterprise authentication
    • ETL
    • Integration patterns and event sourcing
    • Understanding of API design and implementation
    • XML, XSLT, JSON, JSON Schema
    • Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipeline, specifically GitHub and Jenkins
  • Knowledge of healthcare and hospital environments
  • Technical experience in all aspects of software engineering
  • Demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple concurrent initiatives and maintaining one’s own workflow
  • Interpersonal skills that include excellent skill in collaboration and problem solving
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
