Sr. Research Associate

About the Job

The Senior Research Associate manages and contributes to research, implementation, and validation of computational methods for FMI’s internal Cancer Genomics Research group. The position’s contributions focus on development of clinical diagnostic assays, identification of biomarker signatures, and discovery of novel cancer genomics findings from the clinical dataset of targeted sequencing and liquid biopsy (ctDNA) specimens. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and test of advanced computational methods to enhance FMI’s clinical diagnostic platform.
  • Implement data mining strategies to enable biomarker signature analysis on large genomics datasets.
  • Provide scientific expertise for other internal teams, clinical customers, and external collaborators.
  • Conduct novel cancer genomics research using FMI’s genomics dataset.
  • Perform calculations and statistical analysis of research test results.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate results in group meetings.
  • Draft and complete manuscripts for publications.
  • May participate in collaborations with external academic and biopharma partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or a related life science field
  • 3+ years of research experience in the life sciences industry, a clinical research organization, or a hospital

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate proficiency or higher in object-oriented programing with Python and Java, or with other languages such as R and Matlab
  • Experience with:
    • bioinformatics tools and databases (NCBI, UCSC Genome Browser, IGV)
    • writing code for data analysis
    • life science research in both academic and industry settings
    • effectively communicating scientific concepts, experimental plans, and results both written and verbally, to scientific and clinical audiences
  • Advanced academic study in genetics and genomics
  • Previous co-authorship of manuscripts
  • Demonstrated examples of work resulting from independent and innovative ideas
  • History of both highly independent work and highly collaborative work
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
  • Commitment to reflect FMI’s values: passion, patients, innovation, and collaboration
