The VP, BioPharma Partnership Management is a key member of FMI’s BioPharma Business Unit (BU) and Leadership Team (BLT). BioPharma is one of the two revenue-generating business units at FMI, building deep relationships with biopharmaceutical and research customers to transform cancer care and research through FMI’s molecular profiling products and partner solutions. 

The VP, BioPharma Partnership Management oversees a global team of business development and alliance management professionals in support of FMI’s established long-term Biopharma partnerships. This position develops and drives a long-term strategy that drives Customer Experience and business growth, business unit priorities, and the mission of FMI – helping accelerate cancer therapy discovery, development and global access through collaboration and innovative partnerships. This role works closely with key internal and external stakeholders to shape the high-level partnership roadmap and empowers a team to work creatively to provide tailored services to meet ever-evolving customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategy and direction to BioPharma Partnership Management team, responsible for driving customer experience and business with FMI’s established partners
  • Oversee a team of senior leaders who manage direct reports, ensuring that workload is adequately balanced, and partners are appropriately supported
  • Manage and grow a significant portion of FMI’s revenue, ensuring account and product-level plans are clear, growth-oriented, and executed to plan
  • Partner closely with senior pharma/biotech leaders and lead efforts to translate needs from customer conversations into concrete collaboration opportunities.
  • Shape and play a key leadership role in collaboration structures, including JSCs and other bodies that advance partnership goals.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of industry, customer/competitor strategy, and oncology therapeutic development trends, as well as FMI’s portfolio, to advise team on thought partnership approach to biopharma companies and accelerating innovative partnership opportunities across FMI’s solution portfolio.
  • Partner closely with the BLT and FMI’s Senior Leadership Team, including at Executive Team level, to drive and retain business and to ensure a best-in-class customer experience.
  • Drive operational execution of partnership goals through leadership of direct and indirect teams.
  • Support partnerships as a point of escalation, both in service of deal negotiations, broader relationship, or governance matters.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure a OneTeam approach to customer delivery.
  • Identify key trends in the market, partners’ approaches or customer experience and proactively share those with the rest of the Biopharma leadership team, with an eye towards implications and insights that inform FMI’s business strategy
  • Adopt a broad enterprise mindset and shape business growth and customer experience strategies
  • Mentor and support team members’ learning and professional growth, foster a collaborative work environment, encourage innovative thinking, and build leadership skills of direct reports and team members.
  • Ability to travel up to 35% of the time.
  • Other projects as periodically assigned


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 12+ years of professional business development/alliance management experience in a diagnostic or data/insights company, 5+ of which are in Oncology
  • 7+ years of experience managing a team of people managers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, Master of Business Administration, or PhD within Business, Science, Healthcare or Biomedical
  • 15+ years of years of professional business development/alliance management experience in a diagnostic or data/insights company, 7+ of which are in Oncology
  • Experience in healthcare with an emphasis on diagnostics, genomics, and/or biotechnology
  • Scientific and strong business/business development experience including ability to negotiate, execute and close deals
  • Strong knowledge and credibility in the oncology market, both US and internationally
  • Expertise with CDx partnerships
  • Experience with:
    • the principles and approaches of Alliance Management, including joint problem solving, managing escalations, removing barriers for joint teams and managing governance
    • analyzing industry trends, identifying deep customer insights, and using both to accelerate end- to-end sales process
    • building financial models representing complex market situations to facilitate data-driven decision making
    • building lasting relationships with key customers, cross-functional partners, and external business partners
    • next-generation sequencing technologies
    • creating and implementing impactful strategic customer plans that drive revenue and shape best-in-class experience for life sciences partners
  • Globally focused solution and consultative sales experience and a deep understanding of the oncology end-to-end marketplace
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a bias for action and ability to deal with extreme ambiguity and rapidly changing environments
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at senior executive and stakeholder levels
  • Able to work in ambiguity, adapting to change and embracing new opportunities
  • Exhibits high levels of initiative, drive, and follow-through
  • Ability to travel 35% of the time, domestic and international
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
