About the Job

The Vice President, Corporate Development is responsible for defining and shaping FMI’s corporate development strategy, business pursuits, and operations as they pertain to realization of our company’s mission and growth. The focus of the position is on identifying opportunities for strategic and business partnerships and collaborations and identifying new opportunities to meet the overall strategy of the company outside of the Biopharma organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Together with cross-functional leaders, execute on new business opportunities that align with FMI’s corporate strategy; oversee each opportunity through close collaboration with internal and external parties.
  • Internally identify and evaluate business opportunities from external sources and develop the realistic business cases for considering go/no-go decisions and valuations.
  • Screen potential deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, financial implications, and internal priorities.
  • Determine appropriate valuation and transaction structure for workflows and make recommendations to FMI’s Executive Team.
  • Perform quantitative analysis and financial modeling to determine the business case of corporate transactions.
  • Regularly meet with the Executive Team for input on business objectives and re-adjust corporate development workflows based upon evaluations and conclusions.
  • Develop, lead and implement workstreams for external opportunities that include:
    • Strategic partnerships;
    • Joint ventures;
    • In licensing and out licensing;
    • Acquisitions.
  • Partner with Finance and Legal teams for end-to-end transaction process (deal concept to signing), by:
    • Directing and/or executing partner outreach and development initiatives,
    • Conducting financial analysis and due diligence;
    • Structuring and negotiating transactions;
    • Negotiating to agreement; and
    • Planning integrations.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for target company joint development agreements and opportunities with FMI, as they are identified and throughout entire transaction lifecycle. Act as the ‘voice of FMI’ for all group negotiations.
  • Develop negotiation strategies; directly negotiate agreements on behalf of FMI and direct negotiation as required.
  • Partner cross-functionally on large-scale and strategically relevant developments pertaining to acquisitions, licensing, equity investments and complex partnerships.
  • Develop and mentor Corporate Development team members.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years of relevant progressive corporate development work experience (including within industry, private equity, investment banking, and/or consulting fields)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree, such as an M.S. or Ph.D. in a biological discipline and/or an MBA/equivalent advanced business degree
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree work in a mathematical, life science, or business field
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible work experience in life sciences or biotechnology industries or within professional or financial service firms working with life sciences or biotechnology companies
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modeling, forecasting, analysis, and financial reporting
  • Previous experience in deal negotiations with both the C Suite of target companies as well as bankers and finance professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to source, negotiate and structure deals and experience in putting together cases for acquisitions, partnerships, licensing and similar business relationships
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skillset
  • Strong understanding in genomics and oncology, with a network of biotech, oncology, diagnostic and venture capital contacts
  • Ability to work independently and to develop cross-functional, trusting relationships across the business
  • Ability to think strategically and problem solve, with a process-improvement mindset
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis, strategy and project management
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and proven decision-making capabilities with minimal information
  • Passion for technology and its implications for creating a better world
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
