About the Job

The Software Engineer I is a crucial part of the Computational Biology Team and is broadly responsible for building and supporting the software applications and their components. The technical products which are developed by the incumbent filling this position help doctors match patients to more advanced treatment options. This position completes design, development, unit testing, code reviews, and development of technical documentation. Code created in this position is to be reusable, testable, efficient, clean and well commented. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create custom programs and applications.
  • Write, test, and refactor code that is reusable, testable, efficient, well architected, and well commented.
  • Maintain efforts for product or platform to be resilient, cloud-native, secure, and scalable.
  • Help define and participate in software development processes that leverages best practice and supports continuous product delivery.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver complex production ready projects.
  • Participate in and conduct regular peer design and code reviews.
  • Define and document architecture and formal technical specifications based upon information provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years of professional information technology experience in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
  • Knowledge of Unix or Unix-like operating systems.
  • 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering.
  • Programming experience with Python or Java.
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes and toolsets
  • Familiarity with:
  • AWS systems and SDKs, or another cloud provider
  • Docker and container services
  • Clear communication skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
