About the Job

The Associate Director of Biopharma Strategic Marketing plays a critical role in developing and executing portfolio marketing strategies that drive customer awareness, engagement, and conversion in alignment with Biopharma business objectives and financial goals. This highly cross-functional role requires a strong grasp of market dynamics, customer insights, and competitive trends across the biopharma and diagnostics landscapes. 

This role is instrumental in translating high-level strategic initiatives into actionable plans, driving executional excellence, and fostering cross-functional alignment across the marketing organization. The Associate Director will lead key operational workstreams, support strategic planning, and ensure the seamless execution of marketing priorities that advance the BioPharma portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Insights & Analysis
    • Keep an active pulse on the market, and conduct independent research as needed, using sales intelligence, competitive analysis, market dynamics (micro and macro), and voice of customer to inform strategic decision-making
    • Partner with Strategic Operations & Enablement to synthesize and codify learnings from integrated competitive and market intelligence capabilities, and integrate analytics into key marketing initiatives (e.g., launch planning, marketing campaigns, targeting strategies, annual planning)
    • Translate nuanced customer needs across biopharma segments into targeted, actionable marketing strategies that drive engagement and differentiation
    • Apply insights to guide portfolio-level decisions, shape launch planning and prioritize actions across multi-channel campaigns—ensuring alignment with business objectives and agility in response to evolving market dynamics
  • Targeting Strategy, & Forecasting Support
    • Lead the development and refinement of targeting strategies to optimize sales funnel 
    • Translate targeting outputs into actionable recommendations that support strategic prioritization and portfolio growth
    • Partner with Biopharma Sales teams to execute against strategies
    • Collaborate with BE&I and commercial teams to integrate targeting insights into forecasting models and long-range planning
    • Ensure targeting frameworks are informed by market dynamics, segmentation data, and campaign performance metrics
  • Promotional Performance Tracking & Execution Insights
    • Partner with Brand Marketing to define key KPIs and performance metrics for promotional efforts
    • Partner with Business Insights & Enablement to create dashboards to monitor KPIs and marketing performance metrics for promotional efforts
    • Analyze campaign effectiveness and customer engagement data to inform strategy and recommend improvements
  • Strategic Planning & Development
    • Support the development and execution of the annual business plan, including market analysis, opportunity identification, and cross-functional tactical planning
    • Partner with the Senior Director to align marketing strategies with broader business goals and priorities
    • Drive operational readiness for strategic initiatives, ensuring timelines, resources, and deliverables are clearly defined and tracked
    • Support the development of portfolio marketing strategy and robust strategic marketing plans using internal expertise and external partners as needed (e.g., agencies, research firms)
    • Collaborate with business unit sub-teams to socialize strategy and drive cross-functional alignment
  • Project Management & Execution
    • Own project management for select marketing initiatives, including planning, resourcing, execution, and performance tracking
    • Build and manage detailed project plans with clear milestones, timelines, and deliverables, in alignment with KPIs and business objectives
    • Proactively identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and drive resolution to maintain momentum and quality
    • Manage portfolio-level marketing calendars, campaign timelines, and dependencies
    • Own tracking against the annual BioPharma Marketing budget and ensure resources are allocated appropriately
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with BioPharma Trainer to build effective pull-through workshops to drive marketing execution
    • Partner closely with Business Insights & Enablement and Downstream Marketing to track tactical performance metrics and report progress toward goals, adapting approaches where required to optimize marketing activities and drive business outcomes
    • Collaborate with cross-functional internal stakeholders including Clinical Marketing, Medical, Legal, Regulatory, and Corporate Communications
    • Maintain strong relationships with external vendors and agencies to support execution
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation within the marketing organization
    • Implement and optimize marketing processes and workflows to improve efficiency and scalability
    • Champion a culture of agility, experimentation, and continuous learning.
    • Travel up to 10% of the time

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Marketing, Business, or Life Sciences) 
  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare and/or strategic marketing, preferably in biopharma, oncology, or diagnostics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Marketing, Business, or Life Sciences) 
  • Prior experience in oncology / immunology 
  • Proven success managing complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of market research techniques and gathering competitive intelligence with secondary research
  • "Self-starter"; strong sense of responsibility with demonstrable comfort in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Able to work effectively in a fluid, cross-functional, matrixed environment and stand out as a successful collaborator
  • Consultative mindset and experience
  • Intellectual curiosity, with the ability to ask thought-provoking questions and proactively “connect the dots” 
  • Ability to present insights objectively to guide decision-making; demonstrate good presentation skills by pairing sound analytics with storytelling 
  • Motivated to continuously improve performance; outcomes-focused and driven to achieve objectives 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience with CRM systems, marketing automation, and performance marketing tools
  • Ability to flex between strategic thinking and hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Boston, MA is $154,160 - $192,700  per year. The salary range is commensurate with FMI’s compensation practice and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, criticality of role, and internal equity. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for FMI benefits.
