Director, Marketing – Launch Excellence & Special Projects

About the Job

The Director, Marketing, Launch Excellence & Special Projects is a pivotal leader within the Foundation Medicine Marketing Team, overseeing the development, execution, and continuous improvement of commercial product launches as well as managing special, high-impact projects that drive innovation and business impact in the clinical market. In this role, the Director will work closely with senior leadership, marketing, product strategy, sales, medical, legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of project launches, from development of commercial strategy to post-launch optimization. Beyond launches, the Director will take on high-visibility, special projects aimed at addressing strategic business needs, optimizing processes, and driving cross-functional initiatives. This position requires strong leadership and a proven ability to develop and execute commercial strategic plans that align with business objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to think creatively, drive short and long-term commercial strategies, and solve complex challenges by analyzing market trends, customer needs, and organizational goals to deliver impactful, results-oriented solutions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic launch plans for the clinical market, ensuring alignment with business goals, market dynamics, and customer needs.
  • Oversee and manage special projects that support key business priorities, ranging from new business initiatives to process optimization, ensuring successful and timely commercial execution.
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and driving the effective execution of launch plans and special projects. Although not directly managing a team, the Director will take ownership of cross-functional initiatives, drive alignment and ensure teams are working cohesively towards common business objectives to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Gather and synthesize information on the market and customers from a range of formal and informal sources (e.g., research, field sales, voice of customer, etc.); identify and apply insights to shape/refine strategies that result in business impact.
  • Partner closely with Downstream Marketing to ensure messaging and marketing tactics to drive product launches and special projects are aligned with business objectives and strategies, ultimately maximizing impact and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize and allocate commercial resources for both launch activities and special projects, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Analyze commercial performance data for both launches and special projects, generating insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Represent the marketing function in strategic business discussions, offering expertise in launch planning and special projects.
  • Support and collaborate with international team members to accelerate global growth and expand the impact of Foundation Medicine’s business worldwide. 
  • Complete all work in accordance with Foundation Medicine legal and compliance guidelines.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 10+ years(s) of experience in healthcare diagnostics marketing 
  • Proven experience leading complex project launches and managing high-priority projects in the healthcare industry 
  • Ability to develop, rationalize, and present business strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA
  • Oncology experience
  • Molecular diagnostics experience
  • Global marketing experience
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including team management and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple complex, cross-functional initiatives simultaneously while ensuring timely follow up and successful delivery 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a creative and solutions-oriented approach to challenges 
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment 
  • Able to understand technical and scientific information as well as simplify and explain complex concepts to different audiences
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and drive business results 
  • Ability to influence and motivate individuals from sales, marketing, and other internal functions to achieve business goals 
  • Experience working with and managing cross-functional teams and projects 
  • MS Office Proficiency (Word, Excel and Power Point) 
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of patient data privacy
