Molecular Laboratory Assistant

About the Job

The Molecular Laboratory Assistant is a core member of the Laboratory Operations Team. This position supports laboratory technologists who perform patient sample testing and may support equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, or other tasks for the highly complex clinical diagnostic laboratory. Molecular Laboratory Assistants will work onsite Monday- Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

This is a regulated position and additional information may be available from QA on the qualifications for this role pertaining to regulatory guidelines.

Regular onsite work at a designated FMI location is an essential function of this role. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a lab environment using chemicals and reagents. 
  • Maintain adequate stock and efficient use of supplies necessary for performing all procedures including preparation of reagents utilizing KanBan system. 
  • Labeling and aliquoting pre-made solutions and replenishing lab consumables for routine lab usage through work order system. 
  • Coordinating communication and work orders within the department groups. 
  • Help with transfer and organization of materials throughout the lab such as during cold storage moves. 
  • Conduct thorough lab walk through and audit to review the laboratory and equipment to ensure the lab is clean, inspection ready and presentable. 
  • Maintaining lab records which includes posting, collection, scanning, uploading and filing of periodic documents such as maintenance forms. 
  • Triage sample requests and other inquiries to the appropriate lab team member for response. 
  • Follow instructions defined in Standard Operating Procedures and collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance, Reagent QC, Supply Chain and Materials teams. 
  • Maintain proper documentation including proper specimen handling, labeling, and quality control measures. 
  • Participate in biohazard, chemical, and general safety and other continuing education programs. 
  • Maintain attention to detail for quality completion of each task. 
  • Complete projects under guidance of senior lab employees. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or 2+ years of work or academic experience in the logistics, science, technology, or another regulated field 
  • Computer proficiency 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of work or academic experience in the logistics, science, technology, or another regulated field 
  • 1+ year(s) of professional experience in a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/ College of American Pathologists certified laboratory 
  • Demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple projects 
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) 
  • Computer proficiency (such as Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, Excel) 
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with other departments and colleagues 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly with scientific or technical information 
  • Ability to maintain independent workflow and meet project deadlines 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication, collaboration, and problem solving 
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and thoroughly follow up on assigned tasks 
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
