Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison – New England

About the Job

The Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison develops and expands a strong network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to support FMI’s commercial, scientific, and medical objectives. This position is responsible for initiating and sustaining an exchange of scientific information with key external customers and internal teams, including through scientific presentations to health care providers with the goal of emphasizing the strengths of FMI’s existing products as well as with future development initiatives. In collaboration with oncology care teams, this role contributes to improved patient outcomes by advancing understanding and application of comprehensive genomic profiling in clinical practice. This role promotes and develops access to key thought leaders in the assigned region and leverages these relationships to foster education, collaboration, and research opportunities that align with FMI’s mission to transform cancer care. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, build, and establish relationships with potential stakeholders and partners including, but not limited to, KOLs, clinical and research leaders, academicians, clinicians, medical directors, and other health care providers within assigned region(s)
  • Develop, maintain, and expand upon a strong network of KOL and key provider relationships
  • Provide regular support and education regarding disease state awareness and FMI clinical data to stakeholders, tailoring scientific and clinical information for each audience and contributing to genomic-guided therapy decisions that enhance provider knowledge and patient care. 
  • Facilitate advanced education regarding FMI products in the hematology, oncology, and pathology communities as a scientific expert through presentations and scientific exchange.
  • Coordinate FMI’s involvement in national, regional and local scientific forums, including symposia, tumor boards, and training meetings.
  • Contribute to advanced scientific messaging for promotional materials.
  • Develop and create materials such as slide decks, training materials, white papers, monographs, case report summaries, and clinical synopses.
  • Maintain medical affairs initiations and interactions by liaising and exchanging scientific information with healthcare providers and KOLs in oncology and pathology settings.
  • Integrate efforts with Medical Affairs for organization of scientific advisory boards, key opinion leader management, coordination of clinical trials, and execution of publication strategy.
  • Gather market intelligence on competitor products and new products in development.
  • Provide leadership and strategies to develop advocates for FMI and its products.
  • Provide prompt response to complex scientific and genomic inquiries from health care providers.
  • Assist with identification of investigator-initiated studies, guiding through the approval process and monitoring study progress.
  • Demonstrate superior communication skills and experience training and teaching others incorporating FMI medical messaging.
  • Shares appropriate information in a clear and concise manner to all stakeholders.
  • Disseminates information to appropriate FMI teams through appropriate channels to elevate the voice of the Field.
  • Travel within assigned territory (daily), and to company meetings (bi-annually).
  • Travel within the designated region 70+% of working time and outside the designated region up to 5% of working time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a health sciences, medicine, nursing, or genetics-related field with current or previous clinical licensure (e.g., RN, NP, PA, CGC) and 7+ years of work experience as a Medical Science Liaison in a diagnostic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or other life sciences company; OR
  • Advanced scientific or healthcare-related degree (PhD, DNP, PharmD, or equivalent) with 4+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison in a diagnostic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or other life sciences company
  • Oncology experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD, DNP, or PharmD
  • 7+ years of work experience as a Medical Science Liaison in a diagnostics, biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Advanced subject matter expertise in cancer genomics. Expertise in biomarker/therapeutic development
  • Significant disease area expertise and insight using clinical endpoints
  • Demonstrated success managing territory
  • Established technical and product expertise
  • Residing or plan to relocate to, or adjacent to, assigned geography
  • Existing KOL relationships within the assigned territory
  • History of success maintaining relationships with key health care professionals and staff (thought leaders, KOLs, and others) to drive strategic sales and marketing solutions and leverage customer relationships for increased market share within assigned region
  • Expertise in market analysis, market access strategy, and territory planning
  • Familiarity with CLIA, LDT, Sunshine Act (2013), AdvaMed Guidelines
  • Deep understanding of principal cancer patient management algorithms and clinical utility of laboratory-developed molecular tests
  • Strong business acumen
  • Willingness to travel often and on relatively short notice
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience training and teaching others
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Remote is $192,000 - $236,000 per year. The salary range is commensurate with Foundation Medicine’s compensation practice and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, criticality of role, and internal equity. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for Foundation Medicine's benefits.
